To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what support the European Union proposes to give to the Conflict Prevention Unit of the Organisation of African Unity. [16983]

§ Mr. Doug Henderson
The European Union (EU) is giving 860,000 ecu (about £635,000) to the Conflict Prevention Unit of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) to improve communication links between its398W national and regional offices and its teams in the field. The EU is also actively considering further possible practical assistance.
