§ Dr. HowellsIn the current academic year, public funding for teaching per student is some £5,800 at Oxford and Cambridge and an average of £4,000 per student at other universities.
In addition, students are entitled to apply for maintenance support in the form of grants and loans. In 1995–96 (the latest figures available) the average maintenance grant per student was £1,390 and the average loan was £1,250.
