§ Mr. MichaelThe information requested in respect of 1996–97 and 1997–98 is set out in the tables.
Present planned Home Office support for the police for the next two financial years is set out in the "Home Office Annual Report 1997" (CM 3608), table 5.1, page 37, a copy of which is in the Library. This shows that planned support, in the form of specific current, capital and special grants and credit approvals to police authorities, is £3,761 million in 1998–99 and £3,756 million in 1999–2000. The provisional police funding settlement for 1998–99 is likely to be announced next month.
