To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) what changes took place in the Sterling/Deutschmark exchange rate between the opening and closing of the financial markets on Thursday 25 September; [13405]

(2) what changes took place in the Sterling/Deutschmark exchange rate between noon and the closing of the financial markets on Thursday 25 September. [13401]

Sterling rose by 1.76 pfennigs to DM 2.8769 between the opening and closing of the financial markets on Thursday 25 September. Between noon and the close, it was virtually unchanged.
