To ask the Prime Minister what consideration he gave to the experience and views of voluntary organisations and charities before he transferred ministerial interest from National Heritage to the Home Office. [959]

The move of responsibility from the Department of National Heritage to the Home Office has been widely welcomed within the sector and will be seen as the first step to taking forward the positive change in relationships between government and the voluntary sector which we have promised.

The Labour Party consulted widely with the voluntary sector. The policy document, published in March. "Building a Future Together" was circulated to several thousand voluntary organisations inviting views on the location of departmental responsibilities in government.
