To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make it his policy to provide for the fullest access to information on food safety issues by the general public; and if he will make a statement. [43]

Yes. My right hon. Friend, the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, has made clear that it is our intention to introduce changes to the working practices of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food to increase openness and access to information on food safety matters by the general public. We shall be developing this policy in close consultation with interested parties, including consumer representatives.

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will hold discussions with representatives of bodies and individuals responsible for food safety on the introduction of revised guidelines on the publication of information on food safety matters drawn to the attention of government departments. [44]
