HC Deb 22 May 1997 vol 294 c150W
Mr. Streeter

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what is the estimated potential rental income from vacant council owned properties in Devon and Plymouth. [983]

Mr. Raynsford

Local authorities report information on the rent loss on their vacant dwellings in their Housing Subsidy Claim returns. The provisional total rent loss on vacant dwellings in 1996–97 reported by local authorities in Devon, including Plymouth, is some £1.3 million (1.3 per cent of potential rent income); the corresponding figure for Plymouth is £0.5 million (1.5 per cent.). The corresponding figure for rent loss as a percentage of potential rent income for all local authorities in England is 2.6 per cent.
