To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the general Government's expenditure per head in(a) Scotland and (b) the United Kingdom in the last year for which figures are available. [19552]

[holding answer 10 March 1997]: In 1994–95, identifiable expenditure per head was £4,505 in Scotland and £3,760 on average for the United Kingdom, as given in table 7.6B of Public Expenditure Statistical Analyses 1996–97 (Cm 3201).
