HC Deb 18 March 1997 vol 292 c500W
Mr. Sheerman

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage when her Department established its Internet site; what representations she has received and what data she has collated on the use and utility of the site; and what steps she is taking to increase the amount of information available via the site. [19141]

Mr. Sproat

The Department of National Heritage web site, www.heritage.gov.uk, was established in March 1996. The Department's web site allows people to provide feedback on the pages. Representations have been received from bodies wishing to have a link to their web site added to the Department's.

A monthly report is produced which identifies the most commonly accessed information held on the site as well as the total number of people who have visited the site. There are a growing number of DNH publications on the web site with the most recent addition being "Reading the Future—A Review of Public Libraries in England". Future DNH publications will also be posted on the Department's web site and the range of information provided is under review in the light of the recent Green Paper on government.direct.
