To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what steps he is taking to implement the results of the consultation on scallop conservation measures in Argyll and Bute; and if he will make a statement. [19493]

The results of the 1996 UK consultation exercise on scallop conservation were largely inconclusive. No specific measures are proposed for Argyll and Bute. Discussions are continuing in the context of the European Commission's proposed revision of the technical conservation regulation.
