To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what progress has been made is implementing safe routes to schools. [18380]

The identification and implementation of safe routes to school is primarily the responsibility of local authorities. Projects involving safe routes to school may be eligible for funding from the Scottish cycle challenge fund announced in December 1996.
