To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what has been the tax payable on a gallon of each grade of(a) petrol and (b) diesel oil in each of the last five financial years and the current financial year; and what percentage of the retail price the tax represented in each year. [18517]

disproportionate cost. Furthermore, receipts from the Community which benefit Wales, but which do not pass through the Welsh Office, are not collected by the Government on a territorial basis, so that the total of Community receipts benefiting Wales is also not readily available. Welsh Office receipts, as published in the last departmental report of the Chancellor of the Exchequer's smaller Departments (Cm. 3217), from the Community for the five-year period 1991–92 to 1995–96, are set out in the following table.
