Mrs. Dunwoody

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport (1) if he will make a statement on the current position in regard to the privatisation of the National Air Traffic Service; [19000]

(2) what discussions he has had regarding the privatisation of parts of the work of the Civil Aviation Authority. [19001]

Mr. Bowis

[holding answer 6 March 1997]: It remains the Government's intention to bring forward legislation to privatise the National Air Traffic Services early in the next Parliament. My officials are developing detailed proposals in consultation with the Civil Aviation Authority, Government Departments, representatives of NATS's staff and aviation organisations representing both commercial and private interests.
