HC Deb 10 March 1997 vol 292 c27W
Mrs. Jane Kennedy

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what research he has(a) commissioned and (b) evaluated into high-speed rail links in the United Kingdom. [17764]

Mr. Watts

The Great Western main line between London, Bristol, Cardiff and the east coast main line are existing high-speed lines. Two further high speed routes have been evaluated and implementation is programmed. They are the channel tunnel rail link and the west coast main line modernisation and upgrade. A development study for the Great Western line from Bristol to Penzance is under way.
