The following table gives figures, by decile and in bands to the nearest £250, relating to the relevant incomes of parents of pupils receiving help under the assisted places scheme in England in academic year 1995–96. Over 43 per cent. of assisted pupils in that year received a free place because their parents' income fell below the threshold of £9,572 for full fee remission.
