§ Mr. BoatengThe elderly mentally ill are one of the six medium-term priorities for the National Health Service in the NHS Priorities and Planning Guidance for 1997–98. Statutory authorities were issued guidance in March 1997 to help them carry out their responsibilities in the publication "A handbook on the Mental Health of Older People".
