HL Deb 26 June 1997 vol 580 c186WA
Earl Howe

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are contemplating the removal of debris from the bed of Holy Loch; and, if so, whether they have established that the benefits of doing justify the cost.

Lord Gilbert

This matter is under consideration. We expect to be in a position within the next few months to decide whether the clearance of the loch, which was originally requested some time ago by various local agencies, should proceed. In reaching a decision, we will of course ensure that all factors are taken into account, including likely costs, benefits and the views of the local community.
