§ Baroness HaymanThe most recent figures are for the end of 1996, when a total of 26.9 million vehicles were licensed for use in the United Kingdom. Of these vehicles, nearly 85 per cent., or 22.8 million, were motor cars, including an estimated 2.3 million which were company owned.
