HC Deb 16 June 1997 vol 296 c33W
39. Mr. Baker

To ask the Chairman of the Public Accounts Commission how many inquiries he anticipates will be undertaken by the National Audit Office in the current Parliamentary Session. [2035]

Mr. Sheldon

The National Audit Office expects to audit and report as necessary on 550 accounts and produce 50 studies on value for money subjects in this session.

40. Mr. Fabricant

To ask the Chairman of the Public Accounts Commission what assessment he has made of the adequacy of the number of staff available to the National Audit Office. [2036]

Mr. Sheldon

It is the main concern of the Commission to ensure that the Comptroller and Auditor General has right resources to undertake his work. The Comptroller and Auditor General considers annually the staffing implications of developments which affect his remit and reflects them in the Supply Estimates for the National Audit Office which the Commission considers each year. Were he to need more staff or other resources, he would request extra resources from this House when compiling his Supply Estimate.
