HC Deb 16 June 1997 vol 296 c31W
Mr. Mitchell

To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department what proposals he has evaluated relating to communitisation of procedures and rules in civil court procedures in respect of legislation originating from the European Commission or Union. [3929]

Mr. Hoon

During the negotiations preceding the Intergovernmental Conference the Government have considered various proposals relating to civil judicial co-operation, one of which would apply Community legislative procedures to this field. This matter is currently governed by Title VI of the Treaty on European Union (intergovernmental co-operation in justice and home affairs) and the Government consider the present arrangements broadly satisfactory. It is one of the matters for discussion at the Amsterdam Conference which began today.
