To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what plans she has for the direct deductions scheme for fuel. [2287]

Mr. Bradley

The Government is committed to creating a modern and efficient Social Security system. To this end and we are currently considering the direct payments scheme, including the report published in February following the review carried out under the previous administration. We will be making announcement in due course.
