§ Mr. HainLocal authorities and grant-maintained schools reported that, as at January 1997, there were 102 vacancies for full-time teachers in maintained secondary, primary and special schools in Wales. This represents less than 0.5 per cent. of teachers employed by local authorities and grant-maintained schools in Wales. It is open to any suitably qualified teacher to apply for appointment to a vacant post in Wales.
