To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer by what percentage the retail price of audio-visual goods has fallen since January 1987; and what has been the market share of British industry in the supply of such goods in the United Kingdom. [1557]

Letter from Tim Holt to Mr. Austin Mitchell, dated 3 June 1997: The Chancellor of the Exchequer has asked me to reply as the Director of the Office for National Statistics to your recent questions on the fall in the retail price of audio-visual goods since January 1987 and the market share of British industry for such goods in the United Kingdom. The fall in the retail price of audio-visual equipment since January 1987 can be calculated from the ONS database which may be accessed by the House of Commons library. The market share of British industry in the supply of audio-visual equipment in the United Kingdom is shown in the table below:
