§ 34. Mrs. Anne CampbellTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if she will make a statement on the Government's policy towards lone parents on benefit. [910]
§ Mr. Keith BradleyThe Government believe that the best way to help lone mothers is to provide them with help which enables them to move off benefit and into work. This is a high priority. Most lone mothers want to work and we will give them opportunities to do so as part of our welfare to work programme. We will also implement a national childcare strategy which will match the provision of childcare to the needs of the modern labour market. This will help parents, especially lone mothers, to balance family and working life.
