The information requested falls within the responsibility of the chief executive of the Office for National Statistics, who has been asked to reply.

Letter from Tim Holt to Mr. David Marshall, dated 30 July 1997: The Chancellor of the Exchequer has asked me to reply as Director of the Office for National Statistics (ONS) to your recent question on travel-to-work area boundaries. A recent consultation exercise by the ONS has shown a demand for statistics for travel-to-work areas (TTWAs) as well as for local authority areas. ONS has accordingly decided to continue to produce statistics for TTWAs and is now consulting on revised boundaries.
