Mr. Hancock

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement about the court martial of Brigadier Michael Calvert. [10941]

Dr. Reid

Major Calvert was tried by general court martial in Hanover in July 1952. He was found guilty of three charges relating to indecency and was dismissed from Her Majesty's service. The case was subsequently referred to the Court Martial Appeal Court, at which Major Calvert was represented by Queen's Counsel. The appeal was dismissed on 11 May 1953.
