The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions has asked me to reply to your recent question about how many miles of the A3 between London and Portsmouth are single carriageway and where they are located.The A3 around Hindhead in south west Surrey is the last remaining section of single carriageway between Wandsworth in south west London and Portsmouth. It is approximately 4.1 miles in length.
