HC Deb 24 July 1997 vol 298 c706W
Mr. Streeter

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what will be the basis for continued United Kingdom jurisdiction over the six and 12 mile maritime limit after 2002. [9640]

Mr. Morley

I have been asked to reply.

The current restrictions on foreign fishing vessels within our six and 12-mile fisheries limits will continue to apply under Council Regulation 3760/92 until 31 December 2002. The Government are committed to securing their renewal after 2002 under a further regulation. The Prime Minister has received assurances from the President of the Commission that there is unlikely to be any desire to modify present restrictions after 2002.
