To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will place in the Library the details of(a) his costings for the Welsh Assembly and (b) the statistical basis for his claims of savings that can be made from quangos. [9882]

Our White Paper, "A Voice for Wales", outlines the Government's estimates of the establishment and running costs of a Welsh Assembly. I have today placed in the Library of the House a detailed breakdown of the estimates and the assumptions used to make them.

I have made no quantified estimate of the savings that will result from the Government's and the Assembly's reform of Welsh quangos, as it is not possible to do so accurately at this early stage.
