HL Deb 08 July 1997 vol 581 c67WA
The Earl of Courtown

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will increase the area of new plantings of coniferous and broad-leaved woodland on Forestry Commission land; and, if so, what targets for planting they will set over the next five years.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Scottish Office (Lord Sewel)

We wish to see an increase in the area of woodland in Britain, not only on Forestry Commission land but also on privately owned land. We have no plans to set specific annual targets.
