To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many(a) hospitals and (b) hospital trusts there were in operation in (i) 1980, (ii) 1985, (iii) 1990, (iv) 1992, (v) 1994–95 and (vi) 1995–96. [11626]

Information is not available centrally to distinguish hospital trusts from other types of trust. The hon. Member may wish to refer to the information on trusts in the "Health and Social Services Yearbook", copies of which are available in the Library.
