To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will announce the results of the recent study of the United Kingdom space industry. [12541]

The major findings of the study undertaken on behalf of the British National Space Centre showed that, during the financial years 1994–95 and 1995–96, consolidated turnover increased in real terms by 26 per cent. to £613 million. Total UK space turnover is estimated at £740 million for 1995–96. Employment in the UK space sector has risen by 3 per cent. to 6,500. Mean value added per employee, which can be used as an indicator of competitiveness, increased in real terms over the past two years by 20 per cent.
