HC Deb 16 January 1997 vol 288 c330W
Mr. Chris Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) what drug treatments are available on the NHS for those suffering from motor neurone disease; and what assessment he has made of the differences in availability between health authorities in this respect; [11244]

(2) what treatment is available on the NHS for those who suffer from motor neurone disease. [11256]

Mr. Horam

A wide range of treatment, including drug treatment, is available on the national health service for those who suffer from motor neurone disease.

No assessment has been made of the differences in availability between health authorities in respect of treatment for motor neurone disease. It is for health authorities to determine the local needs of their populations and then purchase services to meet those needs within their available resources.
