To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what arrangements have been made in the United Kingdom to appoint a national supervisory authority to monitor the data protection provisions of the convention concerning the use of information technology for customs purposes that was agreed at the Cannes European Council in June 1995. With her agreement, the Government are appointing the Data Protection Registrar to be the designated national supervisory authority within the United Kingdom for the purposes of the convention concerning the use of information technology for customs purposes.
