37WThe Home Secretary has asked me, in the absence of the Director General from the office, to reply to your recent Question about the number of prisoners sharing two to a cell designed for one by prison type in each month this year.Data concerning prisoners sharing cells designed for one is only collected for the prison as a whole. It is therefore not possible to provide information by prison type because many prisons have multiple roles. A list of all prisons which have two prisoners sharing cells designed for one and the various roles they undertake, is provided in the attached table.
