To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many employers have been prosecuted for employing illegal immigrants in each of the last three years; and if he will make a statement. [9788]

Prior to the introduction of section 8 of the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996, which comes into force on 27 January 1997, it has not been an offence for an employer to employ an illegal entrant.
