§ Mr. CousinsTo ask the Secretary of State for Health when he expects to lift the ban on relatives of CJD victims being blood donors. [17543]
§ Mr. HoramThere are no plans to alter the national blood service guidelines which exclude relatives of people who have suffered from Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease from giving blood. This exclusion is in line with Council of Europe guidelines. I should emphasise, however, that this is a precautionary measure only. There is no epidemiological evidence of transmission of CJD through blood or blood products.
