To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will publish the report on the role played by the Committee on Safety of Medicines in his announcements on the safety of third generation combined oral contraceptives in October 1995. [17141]

The announcement to which the hon. Member refers was made by the Committee on Safety of Medicines. The role of the CSM is as an expert advisory committee to the licensing authority, as embodied in the Medicines Act 1968 There is no report on its role in the announcement. The advice given by the CSM in October 1995 still stands and is published in the British National Formulary.
