HC Deb 19 February 1997 vol 290 cc559-60W
Mr. Wigley

To ask the Chairman of the Catering Committee what is his latest estimate of the cost of refurbishing the Strangers' Cafeteria, including the cost of relocating other facilities in order to make space for the new facilities. [16614]

Mr. Colin Shepherd

The current forecast of the final cost of modernising the former Members' and Strangers' Cafeterias, including the cost of relocating displaced facilities and building a new kitchen to service both the Terrace Cafeteria and the Members' Tea Room—in line with recommendations made by the Committee in its First Report of Session 1993–94, which was approved by the House on 12 July 1994—is £6.6 million. This figure is significantly less than the estimate agreed by the Committee in October 1994.
