HC Deb 19 February 1997 vol 290 c614W
Mr. Martyn Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what assessment his Department had made of the presence of(a) hazardous materials and (b) ozone-depleting substances within those buildings his Department occupies; and if he will make a statement. [16310]

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

The Department recognises that it has an important part to play in using products which do not contain either hazardous materials or ozone-depleting substances and has had green housekeeping strategies in place since 1992. Within the Scottish Office, core estate goods that contain chlorofluorocarbons in any application are not purchased and the use of ozone-depleting substances has been phased out. The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1988 are fully implemented in the procurement, storage, use, and disposal of chemically based products.
