§ Lord James Douglas-Hamilton[holding answer 7 February 1997]: Information on the number of mentally ill people with a particular diagnosis is not collected centrally. We estimated that there were around 60,000 people in Scotland with a diagnosis of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease, in 1994.
