HC Deb 10 February 1997 vol 290 cc15-6W
Mr. Alfred Morris

To ask the Deputy Prime Minister if he will make a statement on developments in relation to financial support from the Government for the rebuilding of Manchester city centre following the IRA bombing. [15100]

The Deputy Prime Minister

I was delighted to announce this morning that the Government will give Manchester the funds required to implement the scheme chosen to regenerate Manchester city centre. We shall provide £43 million over the next three years, in addition to £20 million of European funds announced last summer.

I expect these contributions to unlock very substantial investment by the private sector—around £345 million in total.
