The Chancellor of the Exchequer has asked me to reply as the Director of the Office for National Statistics to your recent question on the added value per worker.The figures requested are not available for the whole of the United Kingdom economy. This is because all the component variables necessary to produce gross value added per head data, is not collected by all of the relevant inquiries. Therefore, only partial data is available for the United Kingdom. The following 1994 data represents those sectors where the data can be calculated, and is the latest year available.
