HC Deb 22 December 1997 vol 303 c546W
31. Mr. Cawsey

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what plans he has to ensure that vulnerable witnesses are afforded greater protection in court. [20189]

Mr. Michael

On 13 June, we announced an urgent, wide ranging review of the way in which vulnerable and intimidated witnesses, including those with communication or learning difficulties, are treated by the criminal justice system, with the aim of assisting them to give their best evidence in court. The Interdepartmental Working Group, which is taking forward the review, will report to my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary shortly and its report will be considered by Ministers as soon as possible in the New Year.
