§ Mr. Ian McCartneyThe Regulations fulfil the UK's commitment under the Treaty of Rome to implement Directive 89/48/EEC which facilitates free movement through the mutual recognition of qualifications awarded in respect of regulation professions. They list those professions regulated by law or public authority in the UK, which include titles awarded by professional bodies incorporated by Royal Charter.
There are no plans to extend the Regulations to bodies which do not hold a Royal Charter.
