HC Deb 22 December 1997 vol 303 c469W
Mr. Jim Cunningham

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what measures she will be taking in the course of the Government's pension review to provide a more flexible decade of retirement for pensioners aged 55 to 65 years. [22064]

Mr. Denham

Our pensions review is looking at the central areas of insecurity for elderly people, including all aspects of the basic pension and its value. We received over 2,000 responses to the first part of the review which ended on 31 October, which we are carefully considering. We intend to publish an initial framework for change in the first half of 1998. There will then be a period of further consultation before firm proposals are developed.
