HC Deb 22 December 1997 vol 303 c492W
Mr. Paice

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on the existing regulations on the labelling of meat with the country of origin as they relate to(a) the country where the animal was produced, (b) the country where the animal was slaughtered and (c) the country where the carcase was cut. [22075]

Mr. Rooker

There are no specific requirements for this information to be given on food labels.

The Food Labelling Regulations 1996 contain general provisions requiring the place of origin to be given, if omitting it could mislead the purchaser about the true origin of a food.
