§ Mr. GillTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what further measures he is evaluating which would have the effect of restricting consumer choice in respect of meat and meat products. [21196]
§ Mr. Rooker[holding answer 16 December 1997]: Our priority is consumer safety and maintenance of public confidence in food. We continue to keep all aspects of food safety under review and will not hesitate to take firm and decisive action where that is necessary to achieve those objectives.
We are reluctant to restrict consumer choice and do so only on safety grounds and factors relating to public confidence in our food supply.
