To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimate he has made of the revenue from subjecting each of the main non-taxed disability benefits to income tax. [19261]

[holding answer 5 December 1997]: The estimates requested by the hon. Member, which are published annually in Inland Revenue Statistics are given in the table below for 1998–99:

1 Incapacity benefit is exempt from tax for the first 28 weeks of payment, and for claimants previously on Invalidity Benefit.
