HC Deb 22 December 1997 vol 303 cc470-1W
Mr. Malcolm Bruce

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what millennium-related computer problems have occurred to date at(a) the Inland Revenue and (b) the Treasury; and if he will make a statement. [21555]

Mr. Gordon Brown

[holding answer 18 December 1997]: The Inland Revenue and the Treasury have a rolling programme of work under way to ensure all affected IT systems are Year 2000 compliant. To date no millennium related computer problems have occurred at the Inland Revenue. Two central computer systems at the Treasury have suffered a Year 2000 problem. One system was corrected and a temporary solution is in place for the second pending the planned installation of a compliant version of the software.

Mr. Malcolm Bruce

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if his estimate of the costs of resolving the millennium computer problem include the costs relating to the embedded chip problem; and if he will make a statement. [21556]

Mr. Gordon Brown

[holding answer 18 December 1997]: The managing agents of the Treasury buildings have been instructed to identify those embedded systems that might be affected by the millennium computer problem and to recommend courses of action. Resource estimates for remedial action will be made on the basis of those recommendations.
